Supporting local food pantries has always been very important to me. Here is a fun way that you can help out others in need!
Have you ever heard of a “Rent Party”? In our town, there are Rent Parties held once a month at The South Orange Elks Club. In 2009, Maplewood Resident, Chris Dickson launched these parties to benefit area food pantries. The parties feature local bands. Minimum donation for admission is $5. The proceeds go towards The Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Joseph’s food pantries, which give out bags of food to needy people each week. Rent Party has also started the Backpack Pals program, which provides kid friendly food for children in need. As of now, 78 children in need receive enough food for a weekend.
They have been fortunate to pair up with The HK Community Fund, who will match funds raised. All money raised goes towards fighting hunger.
The next party is Friday, January 11, 2013. For more information on Rent Parties, you can visit
