I have a bad habit. I bite my nails. It comes and goes in spurts though. For awhile, I will have nice long, pretty, manicured nails and then they begin breaking, get brittle, split and just look a mess. Sometimes it is because of the weather, maybe it is all the hand sanitizer we use in Kindergarten, I don’t know, but they just turn into a mess and once they are short, I bite. Argh. I feel like a little kid sometimes. I have had this habit all of my life – even trying to give it up for Lent when I was little and it never worked.
I try to keep them manicured to help and it works for awhile but once they begin to break, the biting begins. Over the last few weeks, they had been looking really nice. Long, manicured and taken care of. I let them get too long though and the breaking began and once that happens, I can’t stop fiddling with them so this time, I decided I would get them manicured anyway. I had the manicurist cut them super short. I painted them a dark color to hopefully catch my eye if they come near my mouth. I am not proud of how they look now, but I haven’t bitten them. In fact, now that I think of it, I haven’t bitten them in months. That’s why they got so long. I am just going to have to keep them at a shorter length and hope for the best. As the saying goes, “Old habits die hard.” Hope this one is done with!
Today’s photo prompt was habit and although I rarely allow my hands to be photographed, (part of the whole self conscious thing….) I took one of them myself today. I am surprised I am even allowing myself to post it they are soooo short! Notice that I turned it to black and white to hide any blemishes 😦
What are your habits? Good ones or bad? Have you ever tried to break them?
